Not really...Hair growth depends of nutrition and hair care.

A lot of people think blacks hair don't grow as fast is for a few reasons...

1. Our hair is a more kinky curly texture...which when straighten is quite long.

2. Black hair lacks natural oil, which can cause breakage do to it's dry texture...It grows at the same rate, but breaks easier.

3. Relaxers damage black hair and makes hair grow slower, and other chemicals as well...like hair colors, texturizers and that sort of thing.

4. A lot of black women like weaves, because it make black hair easier to manage. weaves also cause breakage from glues or having to be sewn into existing hair.

5. Because our hair is naturally dry...Curlers and other heat products cause breakage.

Example...My hair was nearly shaved bald last year. and now my hair is well past my shoulders...I don't use relaxers, weaves, hair color, or put lots of heat in my hair, and I use natural hair care products to maintain moisture.

The reason it may seem like that in some cases is the women that have and LEAVE their hair natural, if they straightened it like whites, it would be just as long and TWICE as thick.

My hair in braids is shoulder length, not straightened, My roommates straightened my hair with a hot comb just to see how long it was and it's to my mid back and is REALLY thick!

Most of the year I keep my hair in natural braids unstraightened, then for the summer I rock my fro.

It really depends on the individual: the age, nutrition, climate, hair grows faster during the full moon, etc. Both types of people have pretty hair.

If the hair folical is round it will grow strait. If it is oval it will curl. Black folks folicals are flat oval and grows like a spring. The rate of growth is the same.

yes i think so because i noticed most of their population have long hair while the black people have a population with a little bit of hair because most of us don't take care of our hair and we use relaxer.

Depends on what they do to their hair. Hair that is constantly bleached, processed, permed etc. will not grow as fast as hair that is conditioned and left in its natural state.

The average growth in a year in about 6 inches for any race/grade of hair. I'm black and cape verdean and my hair grows about an half inch to an inch a month.

Not at all. Caucasian hair tends to be less prone to breakage than African-type hair because the cuticle is open on theirs.

Asian and Native American hair is the strongest and on average, it grows the fastest.

Not true at all. My hair grows super fast. Hence why I have to keep it trimmed and healthy or I would look like the girl from the Ring. ^_^

No sorry can't say that is true. It depends on how well you take care of your hair. If you put a lot of chemicals in your hair and heat, regardless of hair texture your hair will have breakage and be damaged.

The key to hair growth is maintaining it the ways it needs to be maintained.

My hair grows fast, because I maintenance it the way it needs to be maintained. I wash it 3 to 4 times a week, and I deep condition my hair 2 times a week, and I trim it every 6 to 8 weeks! It really has nothing to do with your skin color!

No I don't, when I had natural hair and would get it straightend it was down the middle of my back, well I made the mistake of getting a relaxer (I also got a shorter cut) and my hair became damaged and woud not grow. I am back to natural and I am sure it will grow just as fast as any other persons. Lots of black women get relaxers and that is not good for our hair....
